What is reflection?

Reflections are everywhere, from the image in mirror you might look into each morning to the reflection of the Sun off of water in a lake. Reflection is caused by the interaction of light with the objects around us. Reflection happens whenever light changes direction. If the object is relatively flat and shiny, you have reflection that goes mainly in one direction, so the image created is close to the original. If the object is rough, the reflection goes in many directions and the image is distorted if there is one at all. For now, we'll focus on the first type called specular reflection not the diffuse reflection. We'll leave that for later studies in physics.

Question

In your experience, what type of object gives the best image?

A simple flat mirror is designed to gives an image that is a copy of the original. Of course, the image appears to have a left-right reversal.
