The Sixth Amendment of the Constitution guarantees a person the right to a trial by “an impartial jury” if he or she so desires.

Jury definition The prosecuting and defense attorneys select the jurors from a large pool of potential jurors. These attorneys try to get an impartial jury by questioning each of the potential jurors to see if there is any bias that would make this person unable to hear the evidence objectively. Either attorney may dismiss a potential juror if questioning reveals such a bias. Jurors are citizens called upon to serve on juries for a time, called jury duty. Serving on a jury is part of the civic duty of all adult citizens in the United States.
