A multiple-choice activity consists of a series of multiple-choice questions or prompts, delivered one at a time. Each question or prompt in the activity asks students to choose among 2 - 5 answers. Once a student selects an answer, the activity provides instructional feedback--one or two sentences explaining why the correct answer is correct. In most cases, the feedback provided should make sense regardless of the answer the student selects.
Feedback should NOT include phrases like “That is correct” or “correct answer,” even if separate feedback is provided for each answer choice. A check or an X beside the student’s answer choice will indicate whether the student has selected a correct or an incorrect answer.
The text that appears above the multiple-choice activity should direct students to select the correct answer and should tell them what the question set is about.
There are two versions of the multiple-choice activity:
- Basic Version: This version features a question area with answer choices.
-
Scrollable Version: This version features
a scrollable area for content (like a short story) with a
question area and answer choices to the side.
- Questions can be linked to specific sections of the scrollable content.
- There is an optional preview screen that only displays the the scrollable area. When the user clicks Next, the scrollable area appears on one side and the question area and answer choices on the other.
Please view the examples to see the scrollable version in action.

Examples
Multiple-choice activities can be used in all subject areas to help students identify and retain key ideas, especially when there are multiple concepts on a page (more than can be assessed using one interactive question). Students’ performance on multiple-choice questions is not reported to the teacher; instead, these questions allow students to assess their own knowledge or to practice applying skills and strategies.
