A mismatch activity asks students to consider a set of three items (words, phrases, or sentences) and select the item that doesn't belong. Once a student selects an answer, the activity provides instructional feedback—one or two sentences explaining why the correct answer is correct. The mismatch format also works as an alternative to multiple-choice questions (questions that ask students to choose the correct answer) to vary the design of activities included in a lesson.
Since the mismatch activity is used in different ways throughout our catalog of courses, the text that appears above this interactive should provide very specific directions regarding what students should select (i.e. the correct answer or the item that does not belong). The directions should also provide context--for instance, pointing out what students will learn or practice as they complete the activity. Also, the mismatch activity includes an “extra” part—an activity title that appears at the top of activity. The default text in that area is “What’s the difference?” but it can be changed to anything. You should make sure that the default label suits what you want students to do—or provide different text for the label.
