What is an interactive SVG? How can I use one in a lesson?

Image Types & Uses:

Interactive SVGs can be used with vector & non-vector images.

Non-vector images need to be high resolution & will need to be converted to an SVG format in Illustrator. Interactivity can be overlayed on non-vector images to create “hot spots” if desired, but the image itself cannot be made interactive.

Types of Interactivity:

Use the links below to view examples, formatting, and constraints for each type of interactivity.

  • Zoom and Scroll: Useful for detailed static maps or detailed images.
  • Tooltip: Useful for basic labeling on region hover.
  • Popovers: Useful for displaying information beyond basic labels.
  • Custom Data: Display data outside of interactive area.
