What was the earliest Chinese civilization like?

The city of Shang, one of the oldest cities in China, was considered more myth than fact until the late 1800s, when scientists discovered its remains. The finds started with oracle bones, inscribed with the earliest Chinese writing. In 1975, a huge and complex tomb was uncovered at this site. When archaeologists analyzed the objects and human remains in this tomb, they learned more than they ever expected to about the ancient Shang Dynasty.

These are images of Shang dynasty artifacts that brought to life an ancient civilization that most people thought had only existed in legend.
