The skills you learned in this module are the same ones used by people who generate ideas for Hollywood.

RazzMaTazz Studios is looking (rather frantically) for the next cinema mega hit. Although it is usually impossible to get a Hollywood producer to accept a movie script or idea from someone without an agent, RazzMaTazz has just signed a deal with a major distributor and needs lots of good ideas for movies! Therefore, they're willing to consider submissions from both experienced and novice screenwriters.

RazzMaTazz Studios wants to see your pitch for a feature length screenplay. Your movie idea can be any genre--action, drama, comedy, mystery, or thriller. According to the company’s CEO, Dell Gibbons, RazzMaTazz is willing to give serious consideration to all submissions, and they're interested in both live action and animated projects. Gibbons says the company wants to produce films geared to teens and adults as well as children and families. Their main requirement is that the film include compelling characters and an intriguing plot that will motivate moviegoers to open their wallets and spend money on RazzMaTazz movies.

Question

Based on the context clues around them, what do you think these words mean: novice and pitch?

Novice is set up as the opposite of experienced, so it's someone who has never sold a movie script or idea before.

Pitch is used in the same way that movie idea is used in the next sentence. In this context, a pitch is an idea for a project or product than can be sold, as in a sales pitch.
