An equation is a rule that let's you find outputs given certain inputs. This is called evaluating the equation. It's been a while since we did this type of thing, so let's review evaluating equations by practicing with the following problems. Click on the problem to check your answers.
| Equation | x = -2 | x = 1 |
| y=13x + 18 | y = 13(-2) + 18 y = -26 + 18 y = -8 |
y = 13(1) + 18 y = 31 |
| y = 44x - 100 | y = 44(-2) – 100 y = –88 – 100 y = -188 |
y = 44(1) – 100 y = -56 |
| y = \(\mathsf{ \frac{5}{8} }\)x + 20 | y = \(\mathsf{ \frac{5}{8} }\)(-2) + 20 y = \(\mathsf{ \frac{-10}{8} }\) + 20 y = 18\(\mathsf{ \frac{3}{4} }\) |
y = \(\mathsf{ \frac{5}{8} }\)(1) + 20 y = 20 \(\mathsf{ \frac{5}{8} }\) |
