What impact do special interest groups and lobbyists have on the U.S. government, and how do they influence public policy?

Objectives

Students will:

  1. Define and identify examples of interest groups and lobbyists.
  2. Identify and describe the processes used by interest groups and lobbyists to affect public policy.
  3. Describe the missions, activities, and political involvement of particular interest groups, such as the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the National Rifle Association (NRA), and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), on important contemporary issues.
  4. Evaluate the impact of a specific special interest group on political discourse and on American culture more generally.
