The development plans in Brazil have seen success. One- third of Brazil’s economy now comes from the manufacturing industry. The development of gasohol helped to fuel Brazil’s economic successes. In the 1970s, importing oil was extremely expensive and so the country's scientists developed the alcohol-based fuel which is a mix of gasoline and ethanol. Sugarcane, a main crop of the country, is the main ingredient in ethanol alcohol and so gasohol help to lower Brazilian costs and increase exports.
By the turn-of-the-century, over one-third of Brazilian workers made a living in manufacturing, construction, or mining. About a half of the labor force works in service industries like hotels, restaurants, and shops.
These new types of jobs pay more than agriculture did to Brazilian farmers in the past. The growing middle class in Brazil is educated and skilled. But the truth is, that much of the Brazilian population still lives in poverty, especially in cities and in the Northeast.
