Health is a state of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being. The choices that you make every day affect your health. What you eat, what activities you are involved in, and the friends you have are things that you decide. Do your choices lead to good or bad health?
Health is more than just being sick or not having a disease. Health also focuses on the prevention of illness or diseases as well as on their treatment.
When we talk about total health, we also talk about wellness. Wellness is a state of health that enables you to reach your fullest potential. It includes your emotional, physical, social, and spiritual health and your intelligence. Wellness has to do with feeling good about yourself and with having goals and a purpose in life.
Question
Which one is more within a person’s control—health or wellness? Why do you think so?
Wellness—feeling good about yourself and having goals and purpose—is more within a person’s own control. Health can be affected by things outside a person’s control such as where one lives, accidents, bacteria, and viruses.
