The game is finished. The race is over. The yard has been mowed. The firewood has been stacked. Time to relax, right? Not quite yet.

After strenuous physical activity, your muscles are hot. They need to cool down slowly so that they don’t become tight and sore. The following tips can help you prevent muscle strains after exercising.

  1. Keep your muscles moving by walking while you catch your breath.
  2. Stretch to keep your muscles loose. You can use the same stretches you used for warming up.
  3. Put on a jacket so that your muscles don't cool down too quickly and become tight.
  4. Take a warm bath or shower right away to keep your muscles loose.
