| Color/Hue | The name given to a specific wavelength of light. The hue/color that our eye sees: red, green, violet, and so on. |
| Primary colors | Those hues/colors that cannot be produced by mixing other hues/colors. The primary hues/colors are red, yellow, and blue. Theoretically, primaries can be mixed to form all the other hues in the spectrum. |
| Secondary colors |
Pigment secondaries are the hues/colors orange, violet, and green, which are reproduced by mixing two primaries. The warm colors of yellow, red, oranges are exciting and energetic. Warm colors stand out and are good for objects in foreground. The cool hues/colors are blues, greens, purples. These colors are soothing and calming. The cool colors make objects appear to recede and are good for objects that appear in the distance. |
| Intermediate colors | A hue/color between a primary and a secondary on the color wheel, such as yellow-green, a mixture of yellow and green. |
