Assignment: Provide sensory details using all of your senses.

Red Light Trails in the Shape of a Heart

Many people are born without the full use of all their senses. People who are blind, or deaf, or paralyzed may not know what a sunset looks like, or how a symphony sounds, or what it feels like to get tickled. You may know someone like this (or maybe that someone is you!).

Write an essay in which you pretend you are describing a sight, sound, feeling, taste or smell to someone who's never experienced it. Since this person doesn't have access to all of their senses, you have to use other sensory details to help them understand. For example, you could describe the color red to someone who's never seen it, using feeling, taste and sound.

I am red. I am hot, spikey and crackling like a fire. I am a furious bull, a siren on a firetruck, the sharp edge of a knife. I am a racing heartbeat, a warning, a chili pepper on your tongue.

Once you have completed your essay, turn it in to your teacher.
