The abdominals are a set of 8 muscles located in the stomach, or core area, of your body. As you can see, they extend up to the pectoralis major muscles and down into the pelvic area. Different exercises and activities use a portion or all of these muscles, depending on what you're doing. What are some examples? Some professionals put the abdominal muscles in a group of their own called the "core" rather than label them upper or lower body.

The hand in this picture is holding the hamstrings. They are a group of muscles located in the back of your upper leg. The hamstrings are used whenever you are walking, running, or kicking an object. This is an important muscle to stretch when doing long periods of cardiovascular activity.

The quadriceps, also known as the quads, are located in the front portion of the upper leg. Much like the biceps and triceps, the hamstrings and quads work off each other. The muscle not being used acts as the stabilizer for the other muscle. It is also very important to stretch these muscles as well when being used during a workout.

The calves, located in the back of your lower leg, are also used in walking and running. They are an important muscle when you are jumping or doing any type or activity that involves being on your toes. This is a tough muscle to strengthen since there are not as many exercises. Can you name one or two that would strengthen your calf?
