What part does momentum play in sequencing physical activities?

Momentum is the the amount of force an object has while it is in motion or moving forward. Also known as Linear momentum, it is the product of mass and velocity. We know mass and weight are about the force of an object and velocity is the rate at which the object can change direction.

mass x velocity= momentum

Take two speed skaters. They both have the same mass. However, one is quicker than the other. The quicker skater has more momentum due to the faster speed. Therefore, the faster skater will have to use more force than the slower skater to change velocity.

There are two ways to increase momentum when participating in a physical activity. The first is by increasing the mass or weight of something. The second is by increasing the speed of a body part such as the foot speed or arm speed.
