What should the conclusion do?

kidsRemember the purpose a reflective essay's conclusion? Besides describing the outcome of the event, your essay's final paragraphs should "reflect" on the memory, communicating how the event affected you. Depending on the personal experience you describe, your reflection may make readers laugh, feel sad, or think deeply about your experience and what it shows about life in general.

Take a look at these concluding statements. See if you can match each one to the appropriate reflection.

Standing behind the tiny baby no longer hooked to monitors, he smiled and said, "Your little sister will be just fine."

I realized then that I would never be able to repay him for the life he saved. Doctors perform miracles every day...but they will tell you they're just doing their job.

My Aunt Margie winked as she heaped another scoop of whipped cream atop my second helping of pie. "Our little secret," she whispered.

Those words have stayed with me. I learned that day that how I feel about my own integrity is what matters most in life.
