Larger, more complex machines are made up of multiple simple machines. A simple machine is any device that only requires the application of a single force to make it work. They help you do work by transferring energy from one place to another, making it easier. A machine puts the force where you want it to go and where it gives you the greatest help. The main purpose of a machine is to change the direction or magnitude of the input force.
