How should you finish your narrative?

After you have introduced your topic and the where and when of the story, it is time to develop the series of events. The narrative should retell the events building up to the high point of the action, increasing your reader’s interest as you go. Be sure to use powerful and vivid language in order to “show” the action, as well as your emotions and feelings toward the experience.

A few tips to follow as you write the middle of your narrative.

Keep the story in first person. Remember you are writing from your perspective.
Use transitions (such as first, later, however) to help your reader keep track of time and follow the sequence of events.
Include historical facts and details. As you tell your story be sure to weave your memories with facts and details that help the reader see the larger context.

The ending, or conclusion, is just as important as the beginning of the story. Not only do you want to wind down the action and leave your reader satisfied, but you want to leave the reader with something to think about. Be sure to include the lesson you learned as well as helping the reader see how it fits into a larger historical context.
