Calculating Concentrations

The concentration of solutions can be calculated.

To calculate the concentration of solutions you need to think in terms of 100.

The equation we will use is:

    Percent = Part / whole x 100
A 5% salt water solution means that there are 5 grams of salt in 100 mL of water.

Your Turn . . .

How many grams of sugar are needed to make a 20% sugar water solution if you have 100 mL of water?

You would need 20 grams of sugar.
