How should you go about writing your first draft?

Once you have a plan, you are ready to draft a narrative that recounts an event you find interesting and meaningful. Have your Planning a Narrative worksheet handy as you begin writing, but remember it is okay to stray from your plan as you discover new ideas along the way.

Use the directions below to begin writing the parts of your narrative. Once you have completed your narrative, copy the last screen and paste it into a Word document. Save it as a draft with the word DRAFT attached to the file name.

Write the beginning of your narrative in the space below. Consider how you will hook your readers in these first lines or paragraphs so that they will want to continue reading.

Write the body of your narrative in the space below. This should be the longest section and include the major events of the narrative.

Write the conclusion of your narrative in the space below. This may be the ideal place to include some subtle reflections on the experience described in the narrative so that your readers know the narrative is finished and understand the deeper meaning of your story.
