Blu-ray Discs

Blu-ray Disc is an optical disc storage medium designed to supersede the DVD format.

Another high resolution system that works on the same principle as the CD is Blu-ray, used exclusively for audio/video reproduction. The resolution is much higher than even the DVD. The Blu-ray technology's ability to produce both video and audio is impressive. Again, convenience and economics might win out again as many people are using the internet to upload their movie choices.

The chart below shows a comparison of various characteristics of a CD, a DVD, an HD DVD and a Blu-ray Disc. From left to right, the resolution increases dramatically.
