What does time have to do with FITT?

Did you know that the time you spend exercising affects your level of fitness?

Time Training Meter

If you are a beginner, it is important to start out slow with your exercise program.  To start out, exercise for approximately 20 minutes a day for a couple of weeks.  As you feel you've acclimated to the 20 minutes and it's no longer pushing you, increase your workout time to approximately 30 minutes at least 3 to 5 times a week. An important reminder that if you ever feel weak, lightheaded, or any type of pain, you should stop exercising immediately.

When you do this, you do not need to do the same thing or type of exercise. You can easily do 10 minutes of cardio and then 10 minutes of strength training, or any other variation. It's important, however, to start off slowly with both the cardiovascular training and strength training so that you do not do too much, too soon and hurt yourself. You will see that you will quickly establish a routine and know how your body feels.

Calander and Clock

Once you're able to do a longer session, ideally you'd want to work out for 60-90 minutes per day for at least 3-5 days per week. This is where you will experience the most health benefits.
