Fast food is a type of mass-produced food that is prepared and served very quickly. Drive-through restaurants were first popularized in the 1950s in the United States. The food has typically less nutritionally valuable.

In today’s fast-paced society, many people do not have the time (or do not take the time) to prepare well-balanced meals for themselves. In reality, it generally takes no longer to run into a grocery store to buy a piece of fruit for lunch than it does to go to a burger place; however, many people still opt for the convenience of a drive-thru restaurant.

Unfortunately, “fast food” is not only hard on the wallet, it can be hard on the body, too. When eating at fast food restaurants, try choosing foods with good nutritional value. For example, order a baked potato instead of fries. Or choose a salad topped with chicken instead of ordering a cheeseburger.
