You Design It

Can you create your own tessellation?

In addition to solving problems with tessellations, you should also be able to design and create your own. Draw a tessellation and apply these rules:

  • Use regular polygons. Some easy-to-use regular polygons are equilateral triangles, squares, and regular hexagons. You can use one or several polygons as long as they're regular.
  • Your tessellation can be periodic or aperiodic. Just make sure you have no gaps and no overlaps.
  • Draw your tessellation on graph paper, which you can access by clicking the link below.
Click the Print button to download and print or draw graph paper to use for this activity.

When you're done, submit your tessellation to your teacher.
