When it is time for you to complete the FAFSA, you will go to the FAFSA site online. You will find that the first page has little content, but a big arrow that says, you Start Here. When you click on that arrow, you will be taken to a login screen, where you will begin to set-up an account. You will notice that the FAFSA provides a virtual keyboard for your use. That onscreen keyboard can be used to complete your form, so that you do not have to use your computer keyboard. The people at FAFSA are also concerned about your privacy. By using the virtual keyboard, FAFSA offers another layer of security, preventing others from being able to track your FAFSA entries. While it may not be necessary to use the virtual keyboard on your home computer, always use it if you are working on the FAFSA at school or when using any public computer.

Once your information is confirmed, you will be asked to enter a password that will allow you to save and access your FAFSA information in the future. You will also have the option of creating a PIN. Your PIN is technically optional, but it is required for online retrieval of your information. To create a PIN, you will link from the FAFSA site to a separate site. Your PIN confirmation will be sent to the e-mail address you provide. SAVE your PIN, as it you will use it every year. Again, keep this information secure.
