Once your account is created, it is time to complete the
next sections of the FAFSA. Those sections will include personal, tax, and
financial information. You will also be asked to list school codes for the
schools from which you may want financial aid. Because you will probably complete
the FAFSA before you are sure of the school you will be attending, plan to include
all potential schools or programs. The FAFSA includes a feature that will allow
you to look-up school codes using the name and location of your schools.
If you complete a financial aid application at the schools you identify on your FAFSA, they will process your financial aid request. This allows them to provide you with a detailed potential financial aid package, which is critical to help you making an informed school choice.
While most schools will process financial aid requests throughout the year, priority is given to those students who meet their financial aid deadlines, usually in February or March for a fall starting date. Even though a school may not notify you of your acceptance for admission until late March, you should submit your financial aid application as early as possible.
