During the Renaissance, Florence was a center of new ideas in science, philosophy, economics, and, most of all, art. It was a city where marble came to life, architecture soared, and even a door could become a masterpiece. Today, the city of Florence remains a hub of art and architecture, much as it was during the Renaissance. Visitors to the city can "read" the history of art, both in the city's physical buildings, and in the collection in the Uffizi, one of Florence's most famous museums.
