How do you find the inverse of a quadratic function?

The next video covers finding the inverse of a quadratic function.

PDF Download The steps to find the inverse of a quadratic are the same steps as you would use if you were finding the inverse of a linear. You first switch your x and your y and then you solve for y.

Now at this point since I have this piece squared, I'm going to take the square root of both sides. And when I take the square root, I'm going to have a plus or minus here on the left, so my final answer says y equals negative 1 plus or minus the square root of x minus 3.

Now here's where this one differs a little bit – because we have the square root, remember that anything under the square root has to be positive so we have to set this greater than or equal to zero and solve.

So we have this answer with the stipulation that x is greater to or equal to 3.
