Just as you do a physical assessment of your skills, you must do an inventory of your understanding of the mental skills that have been discussed.
Through mental skills, an athletes can become more proficient at their sports. You need to assess your mental skills periodically just like you do your physical skills.Mental skills are divided into three categories.
| General or Basic Group | This group of mental skills includes motivation, people skills, goals and commitment, and attitude. You need to set your long-term goals and practice on a daily basis. |
| Preparation Group | These skills include positive self-talk and mental imagery, which are used to prepare before a competition or a physical task. Seeing, doing, and evaluating once the competition or task is complete are crucial components. |
| Performance Group | These skills are concentrating, dealing with anxiety, and dealing with emotion and are done on your actual game day. |
