At Accelerate Education, all of our students are required to read novels throughout the school-year. Reading is a life proficiency that must be fostered and encouraged during the high school years when skills are still taught and monitored.
During each school year, students are required to read six novels - three are chosen for the student and three are chosen by the student from a list of approved books. Three books will be read each semester. Each student will complete and submit a study guide demonstrating their comprehension of each book read. Our language arts teachers will provide feedback and answer any questions the student may have.
We believe the novel guide assignments will:- encourage students to read for pleasure
- expose students to titles and authors they might not have ordinarily chosen for themselves
- broaden student knowledge of various cultures represented in the books read
- allow students to analyze works independently
