Time to Fly South
The word duck means "diver". A duck is either a dabbling duck or a diving duck. Dabbling ducks feed on the surface of water but diving ducks dive and catch food underwater.
In winter, many duck populations migrate long distances along a flyway and return the same way the following spring like in the story about Emily, Gerard and Quark. The lakes and ponds are usually iced over in winter so they need to head south to find food.
If there is a store in your area that sells baby ducks or chicks, or a farm that raises ducks or chickens, it might be fun to pay a visit to see them this week. Or perhaps there are places where you can see wild ducks!
