Davy Crockett (1786-1836)
Known as the King of the Wild Frontier, Davy Crockett was a frontiersman, soldier, and politician who settled in Texas for land. He joined the fight during the Texas Revolution, but he was killed in the Battle of the Alamo. James Bowie (1796-1836)
James Bowie was an American pioneer and a slave trader. He decided to volunteer in the army to help fight against the Mexican troops during the Texas Revolution. He too died during the Battle of the Alamo. Placido Benavides (1810-1837)
A Mexican-born settler of Texas, Placido sided with Texians in the fight for freedom against Mexico. He alerted settlers and army leaders, such as Sam Houston, of Mexican troop movements. George Childress (1804-1841)
George Childress was a lawyer and politician during the Texas Revolution. He is known as the author of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Anson Jones (1798-1858)
Anson Jones was the fourth (and last) president of the Republic of Texas. He is known as the Architect of Annexation, which led Texas to become part of the United States as the 28th state of the Union. |
