The Cherokee Nation was based mainly in southeastern areas of the United States, in the Appalachian Mountains and the nearby fertile valleys. The Cherokee lived in what are now western North and South Carolina, northern Georgia, Alabama, southwestern Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The U.S. government forced the Cherokee to leave their homes. Now, the Cherokee people live mostly in Oklahoma.

The Hopi of the Southwest lived mostly in Arizona (where the Hopi still live), New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and parts of Texas and California.

The Sioux had a nomadic lifestyle. They mainly lived in parts of Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
