4. In the days when the Constitution was written, times were very different. Here's a recipe from these days past. Dessert was called “pudding” from the early days in Britain. Try the recipe for Hasty Pudding.
Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar1 tsp. vanilla2 Tbsp. butter1 cup boiling water1/2 cup white sugar3/4 cup flour1/2 cup milk1 tsp. baking powder3/4 cup chopped nuts1/2 cup raisins
Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9” square baking pan.
Mix brown sugar, water, vanilla & butter.
2. Pour into baking dish.
In a clean bowl, mix white sugar, flour, milk, baking powder, nuts and raisins.
3. Drop by spoonfuls on top of mixture in the baking dish.
4. Bake 30 minutes. Serve warm.
Hasty pudding of old was really more of a mush made from corn meal, milk and molasses. This one looks much better! Enjoy!
