Your State Government

What do you know about your state government and its constitution?

Goal:

Goal:

You have been learning about our federal government (what runs our country). Now it is time to learn about the state and local government. Below the federal government is the state government. Any power the federal government does not have goes to the states.

A state government follows the same model as the federal government. They have 3 branches of government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The executive branch is the governor, legislative is the house and congress and the judicial includes the courts including a state supreme court.

Each state has their own constitution. State constitutions talk about how the state is going to run, what laws must be abided and the set-up of the government. State constitutions are normally longer and have more rules than the national constitution.
