The basic unit (Tiospaye) of the Lakota society is comprised of small, related family groups. Ti means “to dwell” and Ospaye means “part of”—and literally means to be part of a circle.

2. Draw a picture from the story they heard that reflects interdependence.  What jobs contribute to the tispaye?

You may choose to draw Standing Deer bringing herbs to the medicine woman who heals her cousin with them. Label the picture "Interdependence in the Sioux Tiospaye". 

3. Think about your own family. This may include extended family and friends as well. How are you interdependent? How do you help one another?

Draw pictures of specialized jobs in your family or community. Label those jobs.
