The idea of interdependence is that we all work together for the good of everyone. This idea of community creates a common bond among the people that live in your community. People that live in a community share many things, they may know the same people, and they use similar services and even bond over shared traditions through community events.
You Try It!
Take some time to learn more about your community and what ties people together. Who do you know in your neighborhood that has lived there a long time? A Relative? A neighbor? The postal worker? The Librarian? Conduct an interview with that person. Create questions to ask related to the following:
- Community Traditions
- How has the community changed?
- What is it that they like about the community?
- Do they have any old photos or articles about what it was like long ago?
- What do they think makes where you live a strong community?
Write a summary of what you learned from interviewing this person. How does what you learned help you feel more connected to your community?
