A paragraph is a part or section of a story that has several sentences and is about one idea. You may have already put your own paragraph together, but you might need one final sentence to finish it up. That sentence is called a concluding sentence.

Your concluding sentence is the red light sentence of your Traffic Light paragraph. It is red because it is the last sentence, which means you stop after the concluding sentence.

Let’s listen to the paragraph about the park. Pay close attention to the sentence highlighted in red.

My favorite place to go is the park. I like to go down the slippery slide. I also enjoy swinging high on the swings. Most of all, I love to meet my friends at the park and have fun and laugh with them. The park, by far, is my favorite place to go.

The red sentence was the concluding sentence, or the sentence that wrapped up the paragraph. The concluding sentence is a lot like the topic sentence (or the green sentence) but just put in different words. Listen to how much alike the topic sentence and the concluding sentences are:

My favorite place to go is the park. (topic sentence)

The park, by far, is my favorite place to go. (concluding sentence)

It is time for you to write a concluding sentence for your paragraph. Remember that a conclusion sentence is a lot like your topic sentence, but you just use your words in a different way.
