Layla went for a walk in the forest and found a beautiful garden. In between the flowers, Layla saw a village of fairies! 8 of the fairies are purple, and 6 are green. How many fairies are in the village?
We know we need to add to help Layla find the total number of fairies in the village. Since we only have two addends, the number of purple fairies and the number of green fairies, we need part + part = whole. Remember, the parts are addends and the whole is the sum!
