What is an opinion paragraph?

Goal:
This week, we will be writing an opinion paragraph.
What is an opinion? An opinion is something you believe, think, or feel.
We won’t be writing just any opinion paragraph. We will be writing a response to someone else’s opinion. Maybe it’s something you agree with. Maybe it’s something you disagree with. You will share your opinion in your writing.
Let’s take a look at an example below. People in this town think that a park needs to be closed because it isn’t used by many people anymore. The author is sharing his opinion about the topic.
Our Park
South Lincoln Park should not be closed down. The park has been a part of our community for over 80 years. Families have so many memories at this park. Future generations should be able to enjoy it too. All our park needs is a little love to bring it back to life. We should work together to clean up the park and raise money to buy new playground equipment. If we all work together, we can make a big difference and bring our park back. Let's work together to fix our park instead of closing it down.
- The topic sentence states the topic (opinion).
- The body sentences give reasons to support the opinion.
- The closing sentence tells why the reader should agree.
