Do you know what the Florida state flag looks like?
Goal:
Goal:
Many symbols are included on Florida's flag. First, though, take a look at what each of the colors on the flag represent. Red means hardiness, bravery, strength, and valor. White means peace and honesty.
Next, look at the red lines on the flag. This is St. Andrew's Cross, and it was added to Florida's flag in 1899. Francis Fleming, who was the governor of Florida in 1899, did not want the all-white background of the flag to look like a surrender or truce flag, so he added some color.
The picture in the middle is the official state seal of Florida. It includes a Seminole woman spreading hibiscus flowers, as well as Florida's state tree, the Sabal palm. You can also see a steamboat on the seal, which was a key method of transportation in Florida's history.
Around the seal are these words, "Great Seal of the State of Florida" and "In God We Trust."
The state motto is below:
In God We Trust
