PDF Download Today, we are going to take a closer look at problem and solution.
What does it mean to have a problem? If you have a problem, you probably have something difficult to deal with. In a story, the problem is something that a character wants to change, fix, or figure out.

How you deal with that problem is called the solution. The solution is the way a problem is solved or fixed.
Let’s read a short story together and see if we can identify the problem and solution. Read along with me as I read “It’s Gone!”

First, let’s think about the problem in the story. The character in our story, Hope, is dealing with a problem. What is it? She can’t find her homework! Now, let’s think about the solution.

How does Hope solve her problem? What does she decide to do? She decides to redo her homework before school.
We will take a closer look at problem and solution this week as we read our selection “A Discovery in a Cave.”
