The diagram below shows what happens when the sun's rays hit a leaf. Some of the radiation bounces off the leaf while a smaller amount passes through the leaf. In an article containing this image, the process would also be described in words. Since the concept is complicated, though, a diagram like this one can help readers understand by providing another way to think about the concept.

It could show the movement of the sun's rays as they hit the leaf and bounce off. The animation could also show some of the radiation moving through the leaf.
