Can you retell the story in your own words?

Goal:

Goal:

"The Covered Wagon of the Great Western Migration. 1886 in Loup Valley, Nebr." A family poses with the wagon in which they live and travel daily during their pursuit of a homestead. 1. Summarize what Sarah wrote in her journal account. Can you give examples of some of the hard choices that Sarah and her family had to make? What happened when they made those choices? What did they have to give up? What did they eventually get?

2. Draw a picture from this story. Include a simple statement that begins, “The Whittaker family made sacrifices to build their life in Kansas. They gave up _____________ in order to someday have ________.”  An example might be: They had to give up their life in Wisconsin in order to have their own land in Kansas.

The photo above shows a family posing with the wagon in which they lived and traveled daily during their pursuit of a homestead. If you were moving to a new home, how would you be traveling?
