What choices do you have for your story's point of view?

You may have a pretty good idea already what point of view your story will have. At least, you probably know which character you will focus on most. But you may not know which pronouns you will use in your story. For most stories, you have two choices: a first-person narrator or a third-person narrator.

Girl Sitting If you choose to write your story in first person, you will use the pronouns I, me, we, and us to tell the story--as though the events are happening to you. (But really it is the main character who is speaking to the reader.)

Girl FishingIf you choose to write your story in third person, you will use the pronouns he, she, them, and they. The character will not be speaking directly to the reader. Instead, a narrator who is outside the story will describe what happened to the characters.

Question

Which point of view does this story beginning use?

The first time Marta went fishing with her dad, she was worried that she would be pulled into the lake if a fish bit the hook on her line.

This story will be written in third-person point of view. You can tell because it uses the pronouns she and her.
