San Antonio is one of the oldest settlements in Texas. It was founded in 1718. Spanish Franciscan Antonio de Olivares helped establish the Alamo Mission there. (This is where the famous Battle of the Alamo took place 100 years after it was settled.)
The San Antonio River ran through this settlement and connected it to other settlements and missions throughout Texas.
