Stephen F. Austin followed through with his father's contract to bring Anglo-Americans to Mexican Texas. He brought 300 families with him, now known as "The Old 300," and established Austin's Colony. Austin's Colony was the first and largest Anglo-American settlement.
San Felipe de Austin was the capital and the center for economics, politics, and society. It was founded on the Brazos River in 1824.
Stephen F. Austin received permission to bring 1,700 more families to the colony between 1825 and 1831.
