Clustering Examples

Let's try solving the problems shown here.

Goal:

Goal:

25 x 13

We will break 13 into smaller, more manageable numbers, 10 and 3. We won't break 25 up any further, but we will in a later example.

steps: 25 x 13: calculate 25 x 10 = 250; calculate 25 x 3 = 75; add the results = 325

Clustering forces us to group pairs of numbers. It's a good idea to write everything down so you don't miss any numbers. It's so easy to make mistakes in math, but writing it allows you to see it.
