Context clues are pieces of information in sentences or illustrations in a story that help give meaning to an unknown word.
By using the picture clues above, you were able to figure out that the object was a computer.
If you see an unknown word when you are reading, try following the steps below.
Don't panic! New words aren't scary.- Use context. The words around it will probably help you figure out what the unknown word means.
- Guess! It never hurts to guess what you think the word is.
- Check! Were you right? Does your guess make sense in your story or sentence? If not, try again.
